Despite the drinking the night before, I woke up in time for some diving the next day.  We went to another shipwreck dive site, the Earl of Shafters.  The Earl was an old sail boat that had 3 massive masts.  Compared to the other wreck, this landscape was wide open, with a sandy bottom.  Generally speaking that made it less interesting to behold.  We saw one manta ray, which was pretty cool.  There was a school of fish that were mostly white with yellow tails towards the end of the drive as well.

That night we went to the ‘disco.’  Our pregame strategy involved drinking a bottle of arrack by the ice factory–though I missed most of that bottle because I was eating dinner.  Then we got some coutu (spelling?), which is chopped up noodles and bread and friend egg and friend vegetables.  Basically it is the ultimate drunk food.  We brought the food and another bottle of arrack to the beach where we enjoyed them.

After we walked to Mambe’s, where a little scene happened.  Apparently tourists can go to the disco for free, but locals have to pay 1,000 rupees ($10 USD).  This was fairly unacceptable to Ranji’s friends (there were about 8 of us), because we could get several bottles of arrack for that price.  Eventually we all went in, though we entered in two shifts of people.  There was a little confusion at the door when the bouncer thought I was a local.  I over came this obstacle by saying ‘What?’ very loudly as he spoke sin halese to me.

Inside the music was very base-centric dance music–fairly uninspired I would say.  I was expecting better because they tended to play much better techno during the day at that place.  That said the party goes until sunrise, with no last call, so I can’t complain too much.

We eventually staggered out of there around 4.  On the walk back some one sold us a drink that I think was basically vegetable broth.  I think he was setting up for the morning commuter traffic.

Ben, dad says that he heard through the grapevine that you’re getting pretty dark, (thus the confusion at the disco I assume). Can we get some pictures on this blog? I want to see what Ranji’s friends look like nowadays. Is that guy Sanca there? He’s the only one I really remember.

There are no pictures. My camera broke the first time I tried to use it. Very annoying.
